WASHINGTON (AP) -- The American Insurance Association trade group spent $320,000 in the third quarter to lobby the federal government on disaster insurance, financial regulatory reform, a bankruptcy option for states and
That's slightly less than the $330,000 the organization spent a year earlier but 7 percent more than the $300,000 it spent in this year's second quarter, according to quarterly reports the group has filed with the House clerk's office.
The organization said in an Oct. 20 filing that it lobbied in July through September on legislation involving flood insurance and rules surrounding the financing of earthquake insurance.
The association also lobbied on implementation of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, which tightened restrictions on banks and Wall Street. The law also created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
The insurers' group also lobbied on the creation of a new federal bankruptcy option for states, and proposals affecting health care insurance access and cleanup of polluted industrial sites. Other issues included teenage driver safety, patent law reform and personal data security.
Besides lobbying members of the House and Senate, the association lobbied the Department of Treasury, the Federal Deposit Insurance Commission and the Federal Reserve System.
