Nike Inc. reported its fiscal second-quarter results Tuesday. The athletic shoe and clothing seller said profit rose 3 percent as strong sales and price increases offset higher costs. The company said it
Nike said it expects new products to boost sales. The company plans to unveil several new products, including some tailored to major sporting events such as the 2012 Summer Olympics. Analysts also wanted to know a bit more about how Nike could benefit from its contract with the NFL, which takes effect following the end of this professional football season.
Nike's Chief Financial Officer Don Blair discusses the NFL contract on a conference call with analysts Tuesday:
QUESTION: Any color you can give us on the NFL license? When we should start to see it show up in the order trends? And then any kind of color on plans for the business? What should we look to see in the market?
RESPONSE: Well, we take that over the first part of April, right? So you'll see some initial product go into the marketplace in April. It's not the high season to say the least, where we're at. So you really won't see a big material impact until we get into the fall season. But that being said, I am very excited about that launch and I think if you talked to any of our retail partners who've seen the product already, they would echo those sentiments.
