Summary Box: Q4 costs rise, profit falls at Amgen

MIXED OUTCOME: Amgen Inc.'s fourth-quarter sales just topped Wall Street's expectations, rising 3 percent to $3.97 billion, but its adjusted income of $1.21 per share fell short by a penny. Its net

income fell 9 percent to $934 million.

SALES TRENDS: Revenue rose from infection fighters Neulasta and Neupogen and five other drugs, but it fell or didn't change for three of Amgen's top four sellers.

2012 FORECAST: The Thousand Oaks, Calif., company, which is changing some top executives this year, expects to earn $5.90 to $6.15 per share, excluding one-time items, on revenue of about $16.3 billion.
